The 7 Week Challenge (7WC) is a series of events hosted by Vincent Massey’s Computer Science Club (VMCSC) in partnership with Canada’s oldest and largest high school hackathon, MasseyHacks. The 7WC is an extension of MasseyHacks’ goal to inspire innovation, the development of big ideas, and a passion for learning.
Each week will feature a new topic as well as a diverse spectrum of workshops, activities, and challenges for students to further apply their knowledge. Below are the weeks and a general overview of each one!
This weekend acts as a kick-off and covers a basic yet diverse range of topics that will leave students excited for what is to come.
This week will introduce participants to the theoretical implementations of algorithmic programming and encourage them to take part in various beginner-friendly programming contests.
This week introduces participants to web development and provides the necessary groundwork to create a simple static website.
This event will start off by guiding students through simple game development using Unity3D, leading into the 2-week long Game Jam, which allows participants to apply and build on what they learned.
This week focuses on basic hardware development with Arduino and TinkerCAD.
This week focuses on problem solving, encryption, and cybersecurity, culminating in the the infamous Hackenger Hunt, which will run in partnership with MasseyHacks.
The 7th interation of MasseyHacks, Canada’s oldest and largest high school hackathon. This 36-hour virtual hackathon is filled with opportunities for participants to use what they learned throughout the 7WC.
Admission to the 7 Week Challenge is completely free! We will provide all the resources, mentorship, and support needed for each week’s activities and challenges.
Due to local health restrictions, we will be hosting the 7 Week Challenge virtually.
The 7WC will be held through Discord. Workshops and ceremonies will be delivered through a web-conferencing solution.
Any student in grade 7 to grade 12 can register to be a participant. If you've graduated from high school, we welcome you to apply as a mentor!
Not at all — in fact, we encourage newcomers to come and participate in the 7 Week Challenge.
Although guided workshop activities and projects are primarily catered toward individuals, we encourage you to collaborate with fellow participants to discuss solutions and ideas.
Once you’ve submitted your application, keep an eye out on your email and application dashboard for further updates.
